Actress/writer

Born - 8 July 1916, St Louis, Missouri, USA
Died - 25 March 2017

Dark-haired, oval-chinned actress, who played the heroine in 'B' westerns, but left the business in 1940 on marrying screenwriter Hugo Butler. After having six children, she became a screenwriter in her own right in the late 1940s, but she and her husband were blacklisted in the Communist witch-hunts, and her subsequent scripts were credited to others until the 1960s. Her last was for The Legend of Lylah Clare (1968). After an acting debut as W C Fields' daughter in It's a Gift (1934), she was also seen in Private Worlds (1935), Bar 20 Rides Again (1935), The Leavenworth Case (1936), Fatal Lady (1936), Stage Door (1937), The Law West of Tombstone (1938), Annabel Takes a Tour (1938), the short Jack Pot (1940) and, much later, the title role in another short Finding Jean Lewis (2009), her last.
