Bob Kellett

Director

Born - 25 December 1927, Lancaster, Lancashire, UK
Died - 27 November 2012

Long-haired, angular-looking English director who worked as a script editor at Pinewood Studios in the early 1950s before directing short documentaries in the Look at Life series. Soon to become famous for his harmlessly saucy comedies, several of them starring Frankie Howerd, Kellett moved into the genre with the two-reeler Grounds for Suspicion (1969), followed by the medium-length Futtock's End (1970). After Girl Stroke Boy (1970), he settled into a decade of rowdy romps: Up Pompeii (1971), Up the Chastity Belt (1971), Up the Front (1972), Our Miss Fred (1972), The Alf Garnett Saga (1972), Don't Just Lie There, Say Something! (1973), All I Want is You...and You...and You (1974), Spanish Fly (1976) and Are You Being Served? (1977). The children's adventure Tightrope to Terror (1983) proved to be his last.
