Jeremy Kemp

Actor

Born - 3 January 1934, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England
Died - 19 July 2019

Tall English actor with red-gold hair, florid features and military bearing, who achieved his first big success in TV's Z Cars, then went into films, taking a number of leading character roles by the scruff of the neck and visibly shaking them around. Born Edmund Jeremy Walker (Kemp was his mother's maiden name), he kept featured billing throughout his career without quite becoming a major box-office attraction: The Battle of the River Plate (1956), Honeymoon (1959), Cleopatra (1963), Dr Terror's House of Horrors (1964), Operation Crossbow (1965), The Blue Max (1966), The Games (1968), Darling Lili (1969), Eyewitness (1970), Pope Joan (1972), The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (1976), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Caravans (1979), The Prisoner of Zenda (1979), The Return of the Soldier (1982), Top Secret! (1984), When the Whales Came (1988), Prisoner of Honor (1991), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1993) and Angels and Insects (1995), his last.
