Rik Mayall

Comedian/actor

Born - 7 March 1958, Harlow, Essex, UK
Died - 9 June 2014

Manic-looking, wide-mouthed comedian and actor, a comic superstar on TV who never quite found the same success in films. The TV series he made with his friend and partner Adrian Edmondson, The Young Ones, was louder, ruder and more over-the-top than any small-screen comedy before it and gained the duo millions of fans. Mayall also invented the ruthlessly dislikable MP Alan B'Stard in another successful TV series The New Statesman. Never a major player in films, Mayall nevertheless appeared in a fair few: The Orchard End Murder (1980), Eye of the Needle (1981), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Shock Treatment (1981), Whoops Apocalypse (1986), Eat the Rich (1987), The Strike (1988), Little Noises (1990), Drop Dead Fred (1991), Carry On Columbus (1992), Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis (1997), Guest House Paradiso (1999), Merlin - The Return (2000), Kevin of the North (2001), Chaos and Cadavers (2003), Churchill: The Hollywood Years (2003), Snow White: The Sequel (2007), Just for the Record (2010), Errors of the Human Body (2012), the short Don't Fear Death (2013), his last, and others. He died from a hart attack.
