Jill Haworth

Actress

Born - 15 August 1945, Hove, Sussex, England
Died - 3 January 2011

Small, slight, wispily blonde, husky-voiced, kittenish British actress, born Valerie Jill Haworth (pronounced Harworth) and plucked from obscurity at 16 by Otto Preminger to star in his (flop) film Exodus (1962). Further films in France - Les Mysteres de Paris (1962) - and Hollywood - The Cardinal (1963, In Harm's Way (1965) - did little for her; soon, though, she became the toast of Broadway as the original Sally Bowles in the 1966 production of Cabaret. Her work back in Britain after that, alas, consisted mainly of nebulous roles in horror movies: It! (1967), The Haunted House of Horror (1969), Tower of Evil (1972) and The Mutations (1974), and, on a return to America, she was little seen on screen thereafter, apart from roles in Strong Medicine (1981), and Mergers & Acquisitions (2001), her last.
