Striking, jut-jawed, raven-haired American actress of angular loveliness and upright carriage. Born Betty May Adams, she was a beauty contest winner who began her career in low-budget westerns. As Betty Adams, she made The Dalton Gang (1949), Red, Hot and Blue (1949), Crooked River (1950), Colorado Ranger (1950) and more. Universal signed her and put her in star roles. As Julia Adams, she made Lights Out (1951), Where the River Bends (1951), The Treasure of Lost Canyon (1952), Horizons West (1952), The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Wings of the Hawk (1953), her best remembered film Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) and more. As Julie Adams, she was seen in The Looters (1955), The Private War of Major Benson (1955), Away All Boats (1956), Slim Carter (1957), Slaughter on 10th Avenue (1957), Tarawa Beachhead (1958), The Gunfight at Dodge City (1959), Raymie (1960), The Underwater City (1962), Tickle Me (1965), Valley of Mystery (1967), The Last Movie (1971), McQ (1974), Psychic Killer (1975), The Killer Inside Me (1976), Goodbye, Franklin High (1977), The Fifth Floor (1978), Champions (1983), Catchfire (1989), World Trade Center (2006) and The Lucky Southern Star (2018), a 20-minute film based on her own autobiography.
