Vivacious Spanish actress whose international film appearances were all too few, although for one, in 1972's Antony and Cleopatra, she was nominated for an Oscar. Born Maria del Carmen Galisteo, she entered films as a teenager, with her winning personality quickly propelling her into leading roles: Serenata Espanola (1947), Filigrana (1949), Andalucia (1951), La Belle de Cadiz (1953), Requiebro (1955), Don Juan (1956), Spanish Affair (1957), Desert Warrior (1957), Bread, Love and Andalucia (1958), King of Kings (1961), Crucero de Verano (1964), La Guerrillera de Villa (1967), Un Adulterio Decente (1969), Glass Ceiling (1971), The Boldest Job in the West (1972), House of the Damned (1974), Beatriz (1976), The Apolitical Man (1977) and Rostros (1978), her last. For the last decade of her life, she suffered from an advanced form of Alzheimer's Disease, finally dying a few days before her 90th birthday.
