A real-life Native American chief, and initially a musician and 'pow-wow' dancer, Grant retired from the Bureau of Native American affairs in his fifties and took up acting, often in 'wise', grey-haired roles: War Party (1988), Squanto: A Warrior's Tale (1994), Small Time (1996), Grey Owl (1999), Legend of the Phantom Rider (2002), Black Cloud (2004), The World's Fastest Indian (2005), It Waits (2006), Beyond the Quest (2007), Maneater (2009), Winter in the Blood (2012), The Lone Ranger (2013), Swelter (2014), Wind Walkers (2015), Crosser (2016), Valley of the Gods (2019) and Two Nations (2021), his last. He died in his sleep.
