Gene Wilder

Actor

Born - 11 June 1933, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
Died - 28 August 2016

Distinctive, quirky, softly-spoken American comic actor with unruly ginger hair and beguiling personality, somewhere between Danny Kaye and Woody Allen, but with his own brand of manic panic. Born Jerome Silberman, he was most notable in the comedies of Mel Brooks or as the screen's first Willy Wonka. On TV from 1960, he soon became a major attraction in the cinema: Bonnie and Clyde (1967), The Producers (1968), Start the Revolution Without Me (1969), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex**But Were Afraid to Ask (1972), Blazing Saddles (1974), Young Frankenstein (1974), Silver Streak (1976), The World's Greatest Lover (1977), The Frisco Kid (1979), Stir Crazy (1980), Hanky Panky (1982), The Woman in Red (1984), Haunted Honeymoon (1986), See No Evil Hear No Evil (1989), Funny About Love (1990) and Another You (1991), his last. He married star comedienne Gilda Radner (third of four wives) in 1984 but she died from cancer five years later. He died from Alzheimer's Disease complications.
