Richard Bakalyan

Actor

Born - 29 January 1931, Watertown, Massachusetts, USA
Died - 27 February 2015

Not-too-tall, scrunch-faced, weasel-eyed American tough-guy actor with brown wavy hair and boxer's profile, once described in his younger days as 'the most compulsively watchable juvenile delinquent of them all'. Billed as Dick Bakalyan from around 1970, when he began playing more comedy roles, often for the Disney studio. But it's for the roles he played peddling drugs to the kids that he'll be remembered. After a debut in Attila the Hun (1953), penny-ante crime was a niche into which he happily settled: The Delinquents (1956), Killer Dino (1957), The Delicate Delinquent (1957), Juvenile Jungle (1958), The Bonnie Parker Story (1958), Deadline Midnight (1959), Paratroop Command (1959), The Errand Boy (1961), Panic in Year Zero (1962), Robin and the 7 Hoods (1964), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre (1967), The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), The Animals (1971), Chinatown (1974), The Shaggy DA (1976), The Man with Bogart's Face (1979), Blame It on the Night (1984), Billy Royal (1992), Confessions of a Hit-Man (1994), Dischord (2001) and Art School Confidential (2006), his last. He died from heart failure.
