Energetic, chestnut-haired performer who, after a start in films as an actress, became one of the best-known 'voicers' of cartoon characters in Hollywood history. Judy Jetson, Penelope Pitstop, Morticia Addams, Josie (of the Pussycats) and many others were all Waldo. After winning a Bing Crosby-organised talent contest, she entered Hollywood at 18 and made more than 30 films in five years: Sing, You Sinners (1938), Tom Sawyer, Detective (1938), Zaza (1938), Persons in Hiding (1939), The Star Maker (1939), The Gracie Allen Murder Case (1939), If I Had My Way (1940), Waterloo Bridge (1940), One Man's Law (1940), Silver Stallion (1941), So Ends Our Night (1941), The Bandit Trail (1941) and Land of the Open Range (1942), her last. She entered radio in 1943 and continued doing voice-overs for film and TV cartoons until 1998. Her marriage to writer Robert E Lee lasted 46 years to his death in 1994.
