Anita Bjork

Actress

Born - 25 April 1923, Tallberg, Dalama, Sweden
Died - 24 October 2012

Cool blonde Swedish actress touted as a new international star when Fox gave her a leading role in her first (and last) Hollywood picture, opposite Gregory Peck in Night People (1954). But she returned to her native country, where she spent the remainder of her career. She had become an established star of the Swedish stage after a debut in 1942, and made her first film, the supernatural drama Himlaspelet in the same year. It was made by Alf Sjoberg, who would later direct her to a major triumph in Miss Julie (1951). After that she was suggested for the lead in Hitchcock's I Confess, but Hollywood lost interest when it learned she was not married to her partner. Her other work includes Woman Without a Face (1947), Waiting Women (1952), Moon Over Hellesta (1956), Lady in Black (1958), The Die is Cast (1960), Square of Violence (1961), Unfaithful (1966), Adalen 31 (1969), Heritage (1979), Amorosa (1986), The Best Intentions (1992) and True Moments (1998), her last film, although she continued to act on stage until 2009.
