Conrad Bain

Born - 4 February 1923, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
Died - 14 January 2013

Genial, light-haired, twinkle-eyed, but concerned-looking supporting actor best remembered for his stint on the TV series Diff'rent Strokes, as the Manhattan millionaire who adopts two black brothers: it kept Bain busy through nearly 200 episodes from 1978 to 1986. His cinema career was sporadic and lower-profile, casting him mainly as doctors, priests or concerned fathers, after a debut in A Lovely Way to Die (1968), following TV work from the early 1950s. Further films included Madigan (1968), Coogan's Bluff (1968), Last Summer (1969), Lovers and Other Strangers (1970), Bananas (1971), A New Leaf (1971), Up the Sandbox (1972), C.H.O.M.P.S. (1979), Child Bride of Short Creek (1981) and Postcards from the Edge (1990), his last, although he continued acting in TV series.
