Jean Simmons

Actress

Born - 31 January 1929, London, England
Died - 22 January 2010

Bewitchingly beautiful, dark-haired English actress with flawless complexion, swan-like neck and enviable figure, who was also one of the most appealing actresses of her generation. She was in films at 15 in Give Us the Moon (1944), displayed her singing talents in The Way to the Stars (1945), and blossomed in Great Expectations (1946) and Black Narcissus (1947), before being given such star vehicles of her own as The Blue Lagoon (1948) and So Long at the Fair (1950). In 1951, she followed new husband Stewart Granger to Hollywood, but rarely got the roles she deserved. Some of the better ones came in Angel Face (1953), The Actress (1953), Guys and Dolls (1955), The Big Country (1958) and Spartacus and Elmer Gantry (both 1960). After that she languished, with the marriage to Granger, and a later one to director Richard Brooks, both ending in divorce. She died from lung cancer.
