Died - 29 May 2014

Blond, blue-eyed German actor with chubby face and boyish features, remembered best by cineastes for his starring role in Michael Powell's controversial 1960 film Peeping Tom. But he made his name for continental audiences by playing Emperor Franz Josef in the romantic Sissi and its two sequels, later packaged in one epic version for English-speaking audiences as Forever My Love (1957). In later years, he played in several films directed by German wunderkind Rainer Werner Fassbender. Born Karl-Heinz Bohm, the son of a famous conductor, he made his film debut on the original German version of The Angel with the Trumpet (1948). Later credits included Salto Mortale (1953), Sissi (1955), Too Hot to Handle (1960), The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1961), The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962), Come Fly With Me (1963), The Venetian Affair (1967) and Hubertus Castle (1972). Now billed as Karl-Heinz Bohm, he went on to make Effi Brest (1974), Fox (1975), Mother Kuster's Trip to Heaven (1975) and Inflation im Paradies (1984), his last. In his later years, he became much involved in good causes in Ethiopia. Four times married, he had eight children, and died following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
