Susan Tyrrell

Actress

Born - 18 March 1945, San Francisco, California, USA
Died - 17 June 2012

Brown-haired, eccentric American actress (born Susan Creamer) who specialised in oddballs and blowsy lowlifes throughout her career. Tragedy struck the Oscar-nominated actress (often billed Tyrell) in 2000 when she was diagnosed with thrombocythemia, a rare blood disease and was forced to have both legs amputated below the knee. She had made her stage debut as a teenager in 1962, followed by TV work from 1964. Her film career didn't get started until the 1970s, but she was soon a popular, if off-the wall featured player: Shoot Out (1971), Fat City (1972), Catch My Soul (1974), The Killer Inside Me (1976), Islands in the Stream (1977), Racquet (1979), Tales of Ordinary Madness (1981), Liar's Moon (1982), Angel (1984), Flesh and Blood (1985), The Offspring (1987), Far from Home (1989), Cry-Baby (1990), Motorama (1991), Digital Man (1995), Relax...It's Just Sex (1998), Buddy Boy (1999), Masked and Anonymous (2003) and Kid-Thing (2012), her last. Known to her friends as Susu, she died from the effects of her blood disease at 67.
