Greg McClure

Actor/nightclub owner

Born - 5 April 1915, San Fernando, California, USA
Died - 7 December 2012

Dark-haired, square-jawed actor whose shot at fame was the title role in The Great John L (1945), a biopic of boxing champ John L Sullivan (re-titled A Man Called Sullivan in the UK). Lesser roles, mostly as tough-skulled brawlers, followed, before McClure, born Dale Easton, got out of the business and became a nightclub owner, presiding over Hollywood's 'The Swing' club for more than two decades. In his last working years, he reverted to his original occupation of carpentry. Other films included The Cross of Lorraine (1943), The Canterville Ghost (1944), Bury Me Dead (1947), Lulu Belle (1948), Thunder in the Pines (1948), The Dalton Gang (1949), Jealousy (1950), Breakthrough (1950) and An American in Paris (1951), his last.
