Herschell Gordon Lewis

Director

Born - 15 February 1929, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
Died - 26 September 2016

Gnome-like director with quizzical features, the 'Godfather of Gore' who invented the slice and splatter genre in the 1960s, films with lurid titles, buckets of blood and often amateurish acting. An English teacher who later wrote many books on marketing, he made his debut as director with The Adventures of Lucky Pierre in 1961. The splatter movies soon followed: Blood Feast (1963), Two Thousand Maniacs! (1964), Color Me Blood Red (1965), A Taste of Blood (1967), Suburban Roulette (1968), The Wizard of Gore (1970), Thus Stuff'll Kill Ya! (1971), The Gore Gore Girls (1972) and many others. After a long hiatus for other activities, he returned with Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat (2002), The Uh-Oh Show (2009) and Blood Mania (2016), his last.
