Margie Stewart

Dancer/actress

Born - 14 December 1919, Wabash, Indiana, USA
Died - 26 April 2012

A more beautiful version of comedienne Martha Raye, with long but lovely face and bouffant brown hair, Stewart was never a star, but the number one forces' pinup of World War Two. Mobbed wherever she went in America, she also caused city-wide traffic jams on a visit to London in June 1945. Born Margery Stewart, her film career with RKO-Radio was brief but busy, mostly in dancing cameos, but occasionally acting leads in 'B' movies: Here We Go Again (1942), The Falcon Strikes Back (1942), Bombardier (1943), Gildersleeve's Bad Day (1943), The Falcon and the Co-Eds (1943), Show Business (1944), Gildersleeve's Ghost (1944), Mademoiselle Fifi (1944), Having Wonderful Crime (1945), Wonder Man (1945) and Betrayal from the East (1945). After the war, she and her husband became producers of music shows, notably those staged at the Hollywood Bowl.
