David Collings

Actor

Born - 4 June 1940, Brighton, Sussex, England
Died - 23 March 2020

Wry-faced, snub-nosed (there was a long gap from the Collings nose to the Collings mouth) English actor with unruly brown hair, in a variety of both sympathetic and unsympathetic roles, and something of a mascot for TV's Doctor Who series, in which he appeared several times. After repertory experience, he began to play character roles on television from the early 1960s, followed by occasional film appearances: A Man for All Seasons (1966), Joanna (1968), Scrooge (1970, as Bob Cratchit), For the Love of Ada (1972), Mahler (1974), Hennessey (1975), The Thirty-Nine Steps (1978), The Outsider (1979) and Tangier (1983), before devoting his time to TV and voiceover work. Towards the end of his life, he appeared in two further films, Mission London (2010) and The Invisible Woman (2013). He died from a heart attack.
