Hal Kanter

Popular comedy writer, producer of Oscars telecasts and occasional director, one of Hollywood's great wits. Kanter began his writing career in the early 1930s on radio, and supplied comic material to most of the great comedians of their time, most notably the screenplays for several films starring Bob Hope. He directed the films Loving You (1957), I Married a Woman (1957) and Once Upon a Horse (1958) and the TV movies Three Coins in the Fountain (1970) and For the Love of It (1980). He died from pneumonia.
