Born - 13 September 1939, Detroit, Michigan, USA
Died - 10 September 2014

Fearsome, heavy-jawed, brown-haired American actor, at a hefty 7ft 2in the tallest in mainstream roles. Although famous as the monstrous Jaws in the James Bond films The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979), he had been in movies from his early 20s, albeit confined for many years to lumbering around as giants and monsters: The Phantom Planet (1961), The Magic Sword (1962), House of the Damned (1963), The Nutty Professor (1963), Roustabout (1964), Brainstorm (1965), A Man Called Dagger (1967), Skidoo (1968), On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970), The Mean Machine (1974), Silver Streak (1976), Force 10 From Navarone (1978), So Fine (1981), Cannonball Run II (1983), Pale Rider (1985), Think Big! (1989), The Giant of Thunder Mountain (1991), Happy Gilmore (1996) and Inspector Gadget (1999), his last, although he was preparing for another at the time of his death - after breaking a leg in a fall - a few days before his 75th birthday. Married to his second wife for 40 years, he had four children.
