James Farentino

Actor

Born - 24 February 1938, Brooklyn, New York, USA
Died - 24 January 2012

Handsome, dark-haired American actor with rather hurt-looking smile/scowl. Although never quite an 'A' lister, he became a prominent TV performer for decades as well as featuring in a score of films. Despite a stormy private live - actresses Elizabeth Ashley and Michele Lee were first and second of his four wives - and battles with alcoholism and drug addiction, he continued acting into his late sixties, retaining a cult fan following. Born James Ferrantino, he made his film debut in the low-budget horror Violent Midnight (1962), and was quickly established as a solid performer in both films and TV: Ensign Pulver (1964), The War Lord (1965), Rosie! (1967), Me,Natalie (1969), The Story of a Woman (1970), The Family Rico (1972), The Final Countdown (1980), Dead and Buried 91981), Her Alibi (1989), Deep Down (1995), Bulletproof (1996), Termination Man (1998), The Last Producer (2000) and Women of the Night (2001), his last feature. On TV, there was a run of dozens of TV movies, beginning with Wings of Fire in 1967, and ending with Drive II in 2006. He was also the hero of the 'Mystery Movie' series Cool Million in the 1970s. He died of complications from a broken hip.
