Tom Laughlin

Actor/director

Born - 10 August 1931, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
Died - 12 December 2013

Tall, light-haired, spare, politically-driven American actor whose 'Billy Jack' films made him a wealthy man, before he diverted into writing books on psychology and running for US president three times. Before he discovered Billy Jack, the short-fused pacifist whom he would play in five movies, Laughlin had appeared in a variety of roles, often as ingenuous junior officers: Tea and Sympathy (1956), The Delinquents (1957), Hell Bent for Glory (1957), South Pacific (1958), Gidget (1959), Tall Story (1960), The Proper Time (1962), Like Father, Like Son (1965), Born Losers (1967, his first as Billy Jack), Billy Jack (1971), The Trial of Billy Jack (1974), The Master Gunslinger (1975), Billy Jack Goes to Washington (1977), The Big Sleep (1978), The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) and The Return of Billy Jack (1986), his last. Married for 57 years to actress Delores Taylor, who survives him, Laughlin also directed a number of his own films, including all five Billy Jacks. He died from pneumonia.
