Lugubrious, beak-nosed, bag-eyed Italian actor, in demand for whiskery character roles over several decades, often in comedy roles, but also spaghetti westerns, and directing a couple as Lucky Moore. He also boasted a brief relationship with Marilyn Monroe in the early 1960s. More than 100 film appearances included those in The Firemen of Viggiu (1949), TotoTarzan (1950), Ha Fatto 13, one of 11 films he made in 1951, Marriageable Girls (1952), The Count of Saint Elmo (1953), Red and Black (1954), Altair (1956), Cerasella (1959), My Friend, Dr Jekyll (1960), Maciste Against Hercules in the Valley of Woe (1961), Jessica (1962), The Four Musketeers (1963), Panic Button (1964), The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1964), After the Fox (1966), The Biggest Bundle of Them All (1968), Danger: Diabolik (1968), Black Killer (1971), Signore e Signori, Buonanotte (1976), Beach House (1977), Where's Picone? (1984), L'Avaro/The Miser (1990), In Camera Mia (1992), In Love and War (1996), Commercial Break (1997), Brigands (1999), The Salesman (2001), Household Accounts (2003), Crazy Things (2005), and Italian Dream (2007), his last.
