Dark-haired, stern-looking, thick-browed and latterly shaven-headed French performer on the international scene. After playing clarinet and jazz pano in night clubs, and sometimes singing too, Marchand turned to acting. Scores of film appearances include those in The Longest Day (1962), Saint-Tropez Prays for You (1967), Rum Runners (1970), A Gorgeous Bird Like Me (1972), Cousin Cousine (1975), Dear Detective (1977), The Big Red One (1980), Loulou (1980), Clean Slate (1981), Deadly Circuit (1983), Vaudeville (1986), Charlie Dingo (1987), Try This One for Size (1989), New World (1994), Beaumarchais the Scoundrel (1996), Stolen Tangos (2001), Dans Paris (2006), The Tree and the Forest (2010), The Dune (2013), Looking for Teddy (2018), Tous Nous Sourit (2020) and La Plus Belle pour Aller Danser (2023), his last.
