Muriel Pavlow

Actress

Born - 27 June 1921, Lewisham, London, England
Died - 19 January 2019

Petite, light-haired English actress (the daughter of Russian-Swiss parents whose original name was Pavlov) whose clean, girlish good looks enabled her to stay in youthful, if fairly tame leading film roles for two decades; a trim, sexy figure and capable acting style certainly helped. Her film career only really caught fire in the 1950s, but there was a debut as a flag-waving schoolgirl in Sing As We Go (1934), subsequent film appearances including A Romance in Flanders (1937), John Halifax Gentleman (1938), Quiet Wedding (1941), Night Boat to Dublin (1945), The Shop at Sly Corner (1946), It Started in Paradise (1952), The Net (1952), Malta Story (1953), Doctor in the House (1954), Conflict of Wings (1954), Simon and Laura (1955), Reach for the Sky (1956), Eyewitness (1956), Tiger in the Smoke (1956), Doctor at Large (1957), Rooney (1958), Whirlpool (1959), Murder She Said (1961) and, much later, after years on stage, Glorious 39 (2009), her last. She was married for almost 40 years to fellow actor Derek Farr until his death in 1986.
