Bob Hastings

Actor

Born - 18 April 1925, Brooklyn, New York, USA
Died - 30 June 2014

Round-faced, amused-looking American supporting actor with a mop of dark hair, probably best recalled by TV fans as the boot-licking Lt Elroy Carpenter in the comedy series McHale's Navy, a role he took forward into two film sequels. From the late 1960s on, he also became an enthusiastic voice-over artist right up to the end of his career in the 2000s. He had begun as a familiar radio voice in post-war years, with TV work from 1949. Films came later and took second place to his voice-over work: The Great Impostor (1961), Moon Pilot (1962), McHale's Navy (1964), Superboy (1966), Did You Hear the One About the Traveling Saleslady? (1968), The Boatniks (1970), The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker (1971), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), Charley and the Angel (1973), No Deposit, No Return (1976), Harper Valley PTA (1978), Separate Ways (1981), Snowballing (1984) and Shadow Force (1992), his last.
