Harold Ramis

Director/actor/writer

Born - 21 November 1944, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died - 24 February 2014

Bespectacled, startled-looking, shock-haired member of the 'Ghost Busters' team whose background in comedy enabled him to blossom both as writer and director of motion pictures. After magazine work as a joke editor, he became involved with his home city's Second City Improvisational Theater Troupe, along with such later-famous comic artists as John Belushi and Bill Murray. Moving to cinema, he began his career in films by writing National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), the first of many. As an actor, he made Stripes (1981), Ghost Busters (1984), Baby Boom (1987), Ghostbusters II (1989), Airheads (1994) and Knocked Up (2007). His greatest successes came perhaps as director: Caddyshack (1980), National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Club Paradise (1986), Groundhog Day (1993), Multiplicity (1996), Analyze This (1999), Analyze That (2002), The Ice Harvest (2005) and Year One (2009), his last. He died from auto-immune inflammatory vasculitis.
