Burly, bearded, latterly bespectacled English actor with small eyes and prominent nose, who quit acting at 40 to concentrate on a writing career. Films as actor include The Damned (1961), Othello (1965), The Whisperers (1966), Stranger in the House (1967), Mrs Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter (1968), Moon Zero Two (1969), Taste of Excitement (1969), The Reckoning (1969), Doctor in Trouble (1970), The McKenzie Break (1970), Gumshoe (1971), Adult Fun (1972) and Survival Kit (1977). Actresses Margaret Nolan and Frances de la Tour were the first and second of his three wives.
