Richard Briers

Actor

Born - 14 January 1934, Merton, London, UK
Died - 17 February 2013

Affable, friendly-looking star, popular both as a comedy actor on TV and formidable Shakespearian on stage. With tousled brown hair in his early days, he was often the young man bemused by the vicissitudes of life, and his reputation from two immensely popular TV series, Marriage Lines and, especially, The Good Life, has tended to overshadow his other achievements. Film appearances were relatively few, but included those in Girls at Sea (1958), Bottoms Up (1960), Murder, She Said (1961), A Matter of WHO (1962), The VIPs (1963), Doctor in Distress (1963), The Bargee (1964), Fathom (1967), All the Way Up (1970), Rentadick (1972), the voice of Fiver in Watership Down (1978), It's Your Move (1982), A Chorus of Disapproval (1988), Henry V (1989), Peter's Friends (1992), Much Ado About Nothing (1993), Frankenstein (1994), In the Bleak Midwinter (1995), Hamlet (1996), Spice World (1997), Love's Labour's Lost (2000), Peter Pan (2003), As You Like It (2006), the shorts Little Whispers (2008) and Fred's Meat (2010), and a riotous appearance in Cockneys Vs Zombies (2012), his last. He died from emphysema.
