Charles Napier

Actor

Born - 12 April 1935, Scottsville, Kentucky, USA
Died - 5 October 2011

Big, blond, granite-jawed actor with very white teeth and small but piercing blue eyes who looked as if he's stepped from the pages of a superhero comic book. Starting as a male model, he found himself playing brainless sex symbols in exploitation movies from the infamous Russ Meyer, but escaped these by the late 1970s to become part of the mainstream Hollywood scene, appearing in several films for director Jonathan Demme, and tangling with Sylvester Stallone and Mike Myers in 'Rambo' and 'Austin Powers' films. He made his debut in Love and Kisses (1965), although the film wasn't released for several years. Subsequent work included The Hanging of Jake Ellis (1968), Cherry, Harry and Raquel! (1969), The Seven Minutes (1971), The Super Vixens (1975), Citizens Band (1977), Last Embrace (1979), The Blues Brothers (1980), First Blood (1982), Swing Shift (1984), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Married to the Mob (1988), Miami Blues (1989), The Grifters (1990), Philadelphia (1993), The Cable Guy (1996), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), Nutty Professor II: the Klumps (2000), The Manchurian Candidate (2004) and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, (2009), his last. There were many more that went straight to video or DVD. As he once put it: I've made more than 30 films outside the country that no one will ever see.' He died after collapsing at his home following a period of ill-health.
