Wendy Toye

Trained as a choreographer, and something of a child prodigy, Toye (born Beryl Toye) began working in British films in the early 1930s as a dance arranger, progressing to choreographer with Pagliacci in 1936. Directing on stage from 1946, she began her film directing career with the award-winning short The Stranger Left No Card in 1952. Later director credits included The Teckman Mystery (1954), Raising a Riot (1955), On the Twelfth Day (1955, Oscar-nominated for best short film), True As a Turtle (1957), We Joined the Navy (1962) and another short The King's Breakfast (1963)
