Away We Go

2/10

Stars: John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph, Jeff Daniels, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Catherine O'Hara, Carmen Ejogo, Allison Janney, Chris Messina

Director: Sam Mendes

Expectant parents Burt (Krasinski) and his long-time mixed-race partner Verona (Rudolph) decide to look further afield for a place to bring up their daughter-to-be.

After travelling from Arizona to Canada, they decide that 'Oh, Aunty Em, there's no place like home'.

Along the way, they meet several exceptionally improbable eccentric couples who all put them to flight.

The dialogue here is all fake - not at all the sort of stuff real people say - and exists only in the writers' imagination. The result is self-serving tedium on a massive scale, in a film that gives one no reason to watch it - even though Rudolph is very good indeed in her major movie debut.
