Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

6/10

Stars: Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, Alexis Dziena, Rafi Gavron, Aaron Yoo, Ari Graynor, Jay Baruchel, Zachary Booth

Director: Peter Sollett

An acceptable teenage romcom with lanky Cera repeating his performance from Juno and Superbad as the only straight member of a gay college band, The Jerk-Offs, who has just been dumped by Tris (the impossibly pretty Dziena), his girlfriend of six months.

Dragged off by his pals on a night-time crawl in search of a mysterious band called Fluffy, Nick runs into fellow-student Norah (Dennings) in a club with her drunken friend Caroline (Graynor). Taunted about her lack of boyfriends, Norah goes up to Nick and asks him to be her beau for a few minutes. Seeing them kiss, Tris, who's also there on a date, is for some reason jealous and decides to get Nick back.

You can guess the rest, although you should brace yourselves for the scene in which Caroline tries to retrieve her mobile phone from a loo full of sick. Dennings, last seen in Charlie Bartlett, continues to be an interesting personality - though her lips are rather odd - who should be seen in roles more demanding than this.
