Life & Lyrics
Stars: Ashley Walters, Louise Rose, Patrick Regis
Director: Richard Laxton
Inner-city twentysomethings use hip-hop music to enliven their humdrum lives. Ho-hum. There sure is nothing special here.
The rapper (Walters) of one crew falls for the singer (Rose) in another. Since the two crews are preparing for a rap contest to see who can hurl the worst insults to music, rivalries are intensified.
And matters are complicated by the rapper being in hock to gangstas. Not surprisingly, tragedy eventually ensues.
Truly average: the whole thing lacks dynamism and spark, although Rose is a lovely girl with an attractive singing voice, and Patrick Regis has a cold-eyed menace that should be seen in better films. Walters, though, is bland compared to his impressive debut in Bullet Boy.
