The Cutlers are gypsies living in a west country encampment. But they are also ne'er-do-wells and thieves. With robberies masterminded by the family godfather, Colby (Gleeson), they're led on these nighttime break-ins by Colby's son Chad (Fassbender), who reckons he can outrun any hare - or police car - in his souped-up auto. He has good cause to test his theory before the end of the film.

Our sympathies are invited for the Cutlers, but they are in truth an irredeemable lot, with Chad's seven-year-old son Ty (Smith) obviously destined to follow in his father's footsteps. Not even a bunch of comic, sneering cops, led by Kinnear, can persuade us from thinking that prison is the only place for these less-than-charismatic NOT Robin-Hoods of-the-Devon-lanes.

But why Chad seems to be expecting a long custodial sentence at the end for making off with a pedigree dog is more than a tad bewildering. Still, lots of forthright performances here and some good car chases too.
