What If
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, Rafe Spall
Director: Michael Dowse
Radcliffe's adult career continues to impress and he's well matched here by the seriously cute and puckish Kazan in a well-scripted romcom that only leaves you slightly uneasy about the outcome.
Medical student dropout Radcliffe, much given to sitting on roofs and contemplating his lot after splitting from his nurse girlfriend, runs into pouch-cheeked Chantry (Kazan), an animation artist, in a rare social venture.
She has a boyfriend (Spall) of five years, so Wallace strikes up a 'platonic' friendship - but romance is at the back of his mind, which seems unfair on Spall, who's a perfectly nice guy: indeed, some might think Wallace is a bit of a snake in the grass as Chantry gradually begins to share his feelings.
Dialogue tends to the modishly frank, but the script is often intelligently written, giving the leads ample opportunity to strike up the Harry-Met-Sally relationship the director requires.
