Ultraviolet
Stars: Milla Jovovich, Nick Chinlund, William Fichtner, Cameron Bright
Director: Kurt Wimmer
This is almost like a second dose of Aeonflux, for those who can swallow it.
'I was born into a world you might not understand,' intones Violet (Jovovich), a 'haemophage' (kind of vampire) battling humans, in this impenetrable, slam-bang, highly computerised action fantasy set in the far future, when infection has led to a ruling class and 'blood wars'.
'What am I doing?' asks Milla at one point, as she attempts to protect a boy (talented Cameron Bright), who may prove the salvation of all, and is thus wanted by various factions in the blood wars. Well might she ask: what dialogue there is, is frequently unintentionally funny, and the movie's just boring in between its bursts of computer-generated violence.
At least its claims to be a comic book sprung to life are not entirely unfounded, with Jovovich looking good with the sword-wielding, cartwheel-spinning, balletic action.
