Who says you dont learn anything at the movies? I now know devout fans of the hit TV series Glee are known as Gleeks and they contribute entertainingly if a tad scarily in their obsessive love in the adulatory interviews that punctuate the songs and song-and-dance numbers in this efficiently-made documentary filmed over two concerts held in New Jerseys Meadowlands Izod Center, best known for being home to the Jersey Jets but no doubt hallowed for all time as the temporary shrine for Glee.
I have never seen the original so obviously cannot judge the merits or otherwise of the adrenaline-charged youngsters belting out songs and dancing fit to be bust. My guess is that, while its well made and excellently edited and certainly destined to propel fans of the series into seventh heaven and keep them there, its unlikely to create many new converts.
Having seen the trailer which showcased the wonderful Jane Lynch who stars in the series and cynically and acidly commented on the movie, I really missed her in the final film. But thats show business!
(My rating, obviously, applies strictly to TV Glee fanatics).
