Isn't It Romantic  (DVD)

7/10

Stars: Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin, Jennifer Saunders, Brandon Scott James

Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson

Chubby, in-your-face Australian comedienne Wilson is something of an acquired taste, but, for once given centre stage, she excels in this daft comedy spoof about a straitlaced architect, Natalie (that's Rebel), who pooh-poohs the romantic comedies doted on by her assistant (The Hunt's Gilpin in a very different kind of role), until she gets knocked out in the New York subway avoiding a purse-snatcher, and finds herself trapped in a romcom of her own mind's making.

Wilson is good at the physical comedy into which she throws herself with some abandon and, although the film's formula is pretty routine, there are enough laugh-out-loud moments to keep the average viewer chuckling, with director Strauss-Schulson firing things along in fine style, and the ruderies held down to 12-certificate standard. With Hemsworth and Devine along for eye candy, it's a date movie that both sexes can enjoy. And the Bollywood finale is a hoot.
