Alan Frank was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but raised in Kenya before coming to London to study medicine. Opting for a career in journalism, he has written numerous books on the cinema, including studies on such disparate personalities as Roger Corman and Frank Sinatra, and several standard works on horror films. For the past 25 years, he has been film critic for the Daily Star.
London-born David Quinlan has been reviewing films since his early days on a chain of local papers in the south of England. The author of more than 20 books on the cinema, including encyclopedic works on stars, comedy stars, character actors and directors, he has reviewed for several film magazines, and was film critic for TVTimes from 1994 to 2006.
