Lightning McQueen (Wilson), the ace racing car, is overtaken (quite literally) by new kid on the track Jackson Storm (Hammer). It looks as though Lightning's time at the top is over.

But a new sponsor, Sterling (Fillion), promises Lightning a high-tech comeback, with the help of trainer car Cruz Ramirez (Alonzo), who once had racetrack ambitions of her own.

This second sequel is almost a complete waste of space, with little to offer apart from the inevitable final race, and even this robs us of a possible McQueen triumph. So little happens (and there's so little plot) that most of the film just lurches along aimlessly, and will surely bore the pants off even junior schoolers.

A car crash indeed then, but if a second sequel like this has so little in the way of originality, why bother in the first place? Box-office receipts, of course, is the answer. But, even so, this is a new low for Pixar Films, who really, really need to get their act together.
