Moon Man
Stars: Voices: Katharina Thalbach, Pat Laffan, Michael McElhatton, Paul McCloone, Taylor Mooney. Narrator: Tomi Ungerer
Director: Stephan Schesch
Tomi Ungerer who wrote the popular 1960s childrens book, doubles as the narrator of this charming, often seriously strange but attractive animated fantasy for kids which finds the Man in the Moon riding the tail of a comet to the Earth and then wanting to go home.
Unfortunately, the presence on Earth of Our Hero (who looks understandably drawn) causes the President of Earth to go after him and also means that children are unable to sleep because they miss his presence on the moon.
Other amiably offbeat ingredients include that science fiction/fantasy film staple, a mad scientific genius, the President of the Earth who, having conquered everything on his home planet now want to conquer the moon, along with a moose, an owl and a father and young daughter who attend a drive-in cinema in a giant 60s American convertible.
I found the resemblance between the Man in the Moon and Korean dictator Kim Jong Un more than just a tad unsettling but, that said, kids will have fun.
