Rebound, The

6/10

Stars: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Justin Bartha, Lynn Whitfield, Jake Cherry. Joanne Gleason, John Schneider, Art Garfunkel, Megan Byrne

Director: Bart Freundlich

This is a pleasant if unexceptional romcom about a divorcee (Zeta-Jones) with two children who falls for her (male) nanny (Bartha). She's 40 and presumably Anglican, he's Jewish and rising 25. There's a problem here, of course. Zeta-Jones, though actually 40, looks nothing like it, and she and Bartha seem a perfectly acceptable couple - except, naturally, in the minds of the scriptwriters.

Her kids adore him, and her own career as a TV sports anchor is blossoming. What could go wrong? Ach! It's those darned writers again: they go and get Zeta-Jones pregnant.

It's a star vehicle for CZJ and she's pretty good too, although Bartha is just a shade too wet to convince us of their mutual attraction. Still, as a time-passing date movie, it does the job.
