Snatched  (DVD)

5/10

Stars: Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, Christopher Meloni, Oscar Jaenada, Joan Cusack, Tom Bateman, Nicholas J Lockwood

Director: Jonathan Levine

Although disappointing overall, this Schumer raunch romp is really not as bad as its very low Internet rating suggests. And Hawn, now 71, looks amazing. More like Schumer's scatty sister than the mother she plays in the film. Just, in fact, like the Goldie of old.

And she gets the best lines. 'When you and your dad left,' she wails to Schumer. 'I thought I'd never have sex again. ...and I was right.'

There are in fact a good few chuckles in the film's half-hour - after the duo goes to Ecuador on holiday - before the kidnap plot kicks in and everything goes down the tubes. There are virtually no laughs in the last hour at all.

Still, it's performed with manic enthusiasm by the entire cast, although a subplot, of Schumer's agoraphobic brother (Barinholtz, not good) trying to suborn an embassy agent (Lockwood) into helping to find the two women kidnapped by jungle mercenaries, is the weakest link and doesn't really work at any stage.

As for Schumer, it looks like we may have seen the limit of her bag of comedy tricks already.
