Visions  (DVD)

4/10

Stars: Isla Fisher, Anson Mount, Joanna Cassidy, Eva Longoria, Jim Parsons, Gillian Jacobs, Michael Villar

Director: Kevin Greutert

The director who gave you Saw VI and Saw - The Final Chapter has assembled a cast mainly steeped in comedy for this foolishly-scripted chiller about a house possessed. Jim Parsons (from The Big Bang Theory) especially looks as if he has trouble keeping a straight face delivering such lines as 'You may still be suffering from lingering PTSD symptoms from the accident'. As who wouldn't.

Victim of the aforementioned car accident is one Eveleigh Maddox (Fisher, from Confessions of a Shopaholic). Now pregnant and with hubby (Mount) in tow, she moves into a creepy vineyard where diabolical happenings in the past have left the land 'stained' according to dodgy old Helena (Cassidy, long time, no see). And inanimate objects soon start moving of their own volition.

None of this is especially scary, with some unintentionally funny scenes; but it is fast-paced and not too long; it will pass the time well enough for late-night viewing, but you'll find yourself just wishing it was better.
